We were pleased to hear that Claudia a student from our Autumn 2019 Coding Fellowship Bootcamp found the support from the team at Develop Me really helped during the naturally challenging times of an intense learning experience.
What was your background/career before you joined the Coding Bootcamp?
I used to work as a Graphic Designer – print design – for about 10 years. I’m also a graduate musician.
I currently live in Southville.
Why are you attending the Coding Bootcamp?
I found myself looking into the possibility to change my career path towards digital. I therefore wanted to practice English and I moved to Bristol from Italy, looking for new opportunities. After 3 weeks I was starting my Coding Bootcamp adventure. The craziest and the best choice so far.
I wanted a course that was full-immersion to fast-track my learning, with a human environment all around and professionals to share their knowledge in the industry. In my opinion, the best way to learn and to figure out how your future job will look like.
What were your main questions/concerns before joining the Bootcamp?
I had concerns about my ability to keep up with the contents’ complexity explained in a second language. I was also concerned about being able to find a suitable job in a reasonable time after graduation.
How does your experience on the Coding Bootcamp now answer those questions/concerns?
Keeping the focus on lessons in a second language has been extremely challenging. Spending hours switching my attention between listening to the teacher and reading the notes or instructions sometimes made me feel exhausted and worried not to keep up.
On the other hand, the amazing DevelopMe’s support let me set up my own way – without any pressure – to effectively learn and fully enjoy the lessons. How is programming anything but problem-solving?
Definitely I feel more confident and positive about finding a job.
What was your coding experience before the Course?
I had no experience.
How have you found the Bootcamp so far?
I have found the Coding Bootcamp intense, fast paced and rewarding in learning so much every day.
It is unbelievably well organized and always open to feedback.
I also loved the opportunity to learn from different teachers through the weeks.
On top, I have found in my cohort the best mates ever. Each one with a different background, all sharing passion for coding and curiosity for learning new things.
What have you enjoyed most?
Building a login system.
How would you describe the support on the Bootcamp?
I’ve felt pretty well supported.
The weekly “one-to-one feedback” is a useful way to make the point to our progress and share considerations.
The tutors are great. Always ready to help, answer questions and find an individual way to make it work. Their kindness and patience make you be kind with yourself as well, and create the perfect mood for learning. Also when you just feel “I want to run faster!“, the best way is often to move forward in small steps, verify and so on, creating a process that adapts to anything.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of attending our Coding Bootcamp in Bristol?
Prepare yourself as much as possible during the months before the course. So you will be able to effectively absorb the amount of concepts.
What role are you looking for after the Bootcamp? Where do you see yourself in the future?
At the moment I am keeping an open mind in terms of a role. I enjoyed WordPress, and my graphic design background could be a good fit. On the other side, I would like to spend more time in further exploring software developing, even though it would be a longer way for me.
Ideally, I would like to work as part of a small team where I can both learn from my peers and share my passion, and connect with the different stages of the process.
We have been running Bristol Coding Bootcamps for 4 years and welcome anyone with a learning attitude. Find out more about our Bootcamp here and get in touch with any queries!
