Tell us a bit about your background before joining the Coding Fellowship.
My background is not particularly techie… After studying law and German I worked in media, starting in digital marketing and then moving into editorial compliance and management for UK newspapers. Before joining the Fellowship I was working in London as assistant managing editor at a national newspaper.
Why did you choose Develop Me?
Several things made Develop Me stand out from other bootcamp providers: the support given to students in starting their new careers, Develop Me’s links with local businesses and, as I was looking to move out of London, the great Bristol location. Then after speaking with Pete, one of the co-founders, and a couple of past students who had really enjoyed the course I was sold.
How much coding had you done before starting the course?
Other than the pre-course prep and dabbling in basic HTML and CSS, I hadn’t done any coding before starting.
What do you hope to get out of the course?
On signing up to the course I was hoping to build a solid foundation in web development to help me transition my career, while learning something new and meeting other likeminded people. So far so good!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Based on my past experiences and given that technology changes so quickly, I think it’s difficult to predict exactly where I’ll be in 5 years time, but professionally I’d like to be well established in a role that lets me combine my previous experience with my newly acquired web development skills, while continuing to learn new technologies and share that with others. On a more personal level, I’d like to have seen a bit more of the world, preferably by bike.
